国際交流センターが企画した旅行で、リンゴ農園に行き、リンゴ狩りをしました。私が思うに、ドイツの果物と比べて、日本の果物は全般的に美味しいと思います。また、私はもともとリンゴが好きなのですが、東北地方のリンゴは最高だと思います。10月頃、寮の管理人さんからサンふじというリンゴがあることを教えてもらいました。今のところ、私の一番好きなリンゴの種類です。通常、1月中旬頃まで食べられます。色は真っ赤で、味はとてもジューシーで甘いのですが、特徴は、中に入っている蜜の芯です。この芯の部分に液体が入っているのですが、これをリンゴの欠陥と勘違いしたり、実際に欠陥品とみなされたりすることが多いことを知りました。しかし、この蜜芯は自然にできたもので、私の好きな甘みを与えてくれる部分なのです。
ある先生が企画した別の旅行で、福島県の浜通りという海岸地域に行きました。日本以外の国から来た人にも楽しんでもらいたいと、英語や中国語で観光案内ができるガイドを養成しています。私たちは、このツアーに参加し、外国人としての意見や感想を伝え、より良いツアーにするために協力しました。2日間で、浜通りの北から南まで回り、たくさんの面白い場所を見たり、楽しい活動を経験したりすることができました。
他の観光地もぜひ訪れてほしいのですが、私が気に入ったのはhaccobaといわき四倉の2つのスポットです。haccobaは、新しくできた小さな酒蔵です。酒造りに使用する材料に自由度があることで知られています。そのため、実験的な酒造りをしているように見えますが、その自由さが、haccobaの酒をユニークで素晴らしいものにしています。さらに、東日本大震災の避難生活で人口の大半を失った小高というまちを拠点としています。もちろん、活性化などの社会的課題に真剣に取り組むことは重要です。しかし、haccobaは、日本酒を通じて、そのような問題をもっと気軽に考えるきっかけを作ることができると考えています。
いわき市の四倉エリアでは、弁天島を目的地とした海岸沿いの復興サイクリングロードを自転車で走りました。曇り空でしたが、最初から最後まで素晴らしい景色が広がり、サイクリングの疲れは全くありませんでした。
同じ先生と一緒に、「福島浜街道桜プロジェクト」の10周年記念事業記念式典にも参加しました。そのプロジェクトは、浜通りのいわき市から新地町までの国道6号線全長163kmに、合計2万本の桜を植樹することを目的としています。その最初の理由は、観光地としての魅力を高めることで、福島の活性化につなげるためです。世界中の人々から協賛をいただき、大きく成長した20年後の未来に向けたメッセージを込めた木々です。
授業の一つとして、福島をプロモーションするために、ソーシャルメディアへの投稿や桜プロジェクトに関連した動画を作成しました。そのうちの一つが、10周年記念の表彰式で2位を受賞しました。
数年前に2人のクラスメイトによって作られたマスコットキャラクター「ピーチコちゃん」は、プライバシー保護のため、写真で顔を隠しています。
次の日、自分たちで50本の桜を植樹する機会を得ました。
私は福島に10ヶ月しか滞在していませんが、この場所と人々が本当に好きになりました。これから毎回、福島に帰ってきて、ここでできた友達と一緒にその成長を見るのがとても楽しみです。ですから、「さくらプロジェクト」の初志は成功していると思います。

Trips with Fukushima University
Apple picking
Among other places, we went apple picking at an apple farm during a trip that was organised by the International Center. In my opinion, fruits in Japan are generally more delicious when compared to fruits in Germany. Moreover, I have always liked apples, but especially in the North-eastern region of Japan apples are on another level. I first heard about Sun Fuji apples from the dormitory's manager sometime in October, around the beginning of their season. So far, they are my favourite variety of apples. They are usually available until approximately the middle of January. Their colour is a rather lush red, and their taste is extremely juicy and sweet, but their most special trait is the so-called honey core inside of them. The centre is filled with a liquid substance which I learned is often mistaken for or actually considered as the apple being defective. Contrarily, it develops naturally and is the part that gives the Sun Fuji apples the extra sweetness that I like.
New Hope-Tourism
On another trip organised by one of our teachers, we went to Hamadori, the coastal area of Fukushima Prefecture. In hopes that visitors from places other than Japan will enjoy it, he has been training guides to show tourists around in English or Chinese. We participated to help improve the tour and guiding with our opinions and impressions as foreigners who were rather new to that area. During the 2 days, we travelled from the north to the south of Hamadori and got to see and experience many interesting places or activities.
I would highly recommend visiting all the other attractions, too, but 2 of my favourite spots were haccoba and the Iwaki Yotsukura Area.
Haccoba is a fairly new and, therefore, still small sake brewery. It is known for its freedom regarding the ingredients used for sake brewing. The sake seems experimental because of the variety of ingredients, but the lack of restrictions gives haccoba sake its unique yet great taste. Furthermore, it is based in Odaka Town which lost most of its population due to the evacuation following the Great East Japan Earthquake. It is, of course, important to address social issues such as revitalization seriously. Nevertheless, haccoba believes that through sake, it can create an opportunity for people to think about such problems in a more light-hearted way.
In the Yotsukura Area in Iwaki City, we rode bicycles on the Reconstruction Cycling Road along the coast and beaches with Benten Island as its destination. It was a cloudy day, but the view was magnificent from start to finish, and cycling was not the least exhausting.
Fukushima Hama-Kaido Sakura Project 10th Anniversary
With the same teacher, we also participated in the Fukushima Hama-Kaido Sakura Project's 10th anniversary celebration ceremony. The project aims to plant a total of 20,000 sakura trees along the total 163 km length of Route 6 from Iwaki City to Shinchi Town in the Hamadori region. The initial reason for that is the revitalization of Fukushima by increasing its attractiveness as a tourist destination. The trees are sponsored by people all over the world, and carry messages for a future in 20 years when they have grown big.
As part of a class, we posted on social media and created videos related to the Sakura Project to promote Fukushima.
One of our videos won second place at the 10th anniversary award ceremony. Peachiko chan, our mascot created by two of us a few years ago, blurred out our faces in the photo in order to protect our privacy.
The next day, we had the opportunity to plant 50 sakura trees ourselves. I have only spent 10 months in Fukushima, but I have really come to love this place and its people. Now that I even have a sakura tree, I am really looking forward to coming back to Fukushima to see it grow each time from now on with the friends that I have made here. Therefore, I think that the original intention of the Sakura Project is going to be successful.
