Hi, I am from the Netherlands and I study in a city called Groningen at the Hanze University. Back home I study business administration. I am currently in my third year. I will be in Fukushima from April until August.

I came to Fukushima on the first of April. The first few days were a lot of introductions and a ton of information. I was one of the 3 new students how arrived this semester so we had a lot of experienced students to show us around. The helped us with getting everything we needed, showing us around and getting to the university. You also get buddies assigned to you as soon as you arrive. My buddies helped me so much during the first few weeks. This was very helpful and I am thankful for that. During the first week we started with introductions of every class and of the university in which William helped us translate.

As the first few weeks went by I started to settle in. Getting to know everybody has been a true pleasure. I started to explore Fukushima City and found a lot of cool restaurants, shops and of course the beautiful nature that is in and around the city. This year the Sakura season was a little bit off because of the warm weather so we quickly went around the prefecture so see as many as we could.

During Golden week me and 3 other students went around the whole of the Tohoku region and every day we explored a new city. Since the train system in Japan is amazing the distance you can travel in one day is immensely. We went all the way up to Aomori and all the way down south to Tokyo. Every night we slept in the dorm and came back around 12 o'clock, and the next morning we would take the Shinkansen again at 8. We saw so much during this week and even though it was exhausting it was one of my favorite experiences so far.

My favorite thing to do in Fukushima is go out and eat with the other students. Especially sushi and ramen are my favorites. Besides that, I like to go the student bar and have a few drinks and end the night with Karaoke. Or we like to go bowling and afterwards play games in the arcade. Fukushima city is also perfect to walk around since there is a new cute shop on every corner.
