【交換留学生より】A Warm Year in Fukushima

【出身国 / 大学】ベラルーシ / ベラルーシ国立大学
【在学期間】2024年10月~ 経済経営学類特別聴講学生 K.Aさん

When I first arrived in Japan, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. It was my first time living abroad for such a long period, and everything--from the language to daily routines--was new to me. However, from the moment I arrived in Fukushima, I was warmly welcomed by the staff and students (buddies) of Fukushima University, which made the adjustment much easier.
During my exchange, I had the chance to stay with a host family, which was one of the most meaningful parts of my experience. Living with them helped me understand Japanese daily life and culture in a warm, personal way.
Studying at Fukushima University gave me the opportunity not only to improve my Japanese skills but also to meet people from all over the world. The classes were interesting and interactive. The International Center was always very supportive and offered help whenever I needed it.
One of the highlights of my exchange year was the many tours organized by the university. We visited different areas in Fukushima, such as Hamadōri, and even went on trips to other prefectures like Yamagata. These experiences were unforgettable and helped me understand more about the diversity of the Tohoku region. They also allowed me to bond with other exchange students and local Japanese students.
In my free time, I enjoyed exploring Fukushima Prefecture. One of my favorite places was Iino Town, known for its UFO museum. A friend and I once took a trip there, and I was really impressed by the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful landscapes.
At first glance, Fukushima might seem quiet or less exciting compared to big cities like Tokyo, Osaka, or Kyoto. But I believe that no matter where you are, you can always find opportunities for interesting adventures and discoveries. Fukushima is full of nature, culture, and kind people--it's a place where you can truly experience the real Japan.
My time at Fukushima University was truly special. I'm very grateful for all the experiences, friends, and memories I gained. I hope future students will also choose Fukushima for their exchange--it's a place where you can learn, grow, and feel at home.
