Hello everyone, I studied for a semester at Fukushima University from October 2025 to February 2026.![]()
I was an exchange student from the University of Glasgow studying Community Development.
I had never been to Japan before and getting this opportunity to live abroad for the first time and start a new life in another country was very exciting.
My first impression of Japan was that it was very beautiful.![]()
I came not knowing any Japanese, so I was very impressed that I made it to meet the buddies at Fukushima station on day one of my study exchange.![]()
While studying in Fukushima I had an amazing time. I met new friends who I still speak to and have made plans with for the future.
I learned a lot about myself including that I can go further out of my comfort zone, I am much more confident than I think, and I need to trust myself more.
My favourite places to go in Fukushima were (of course) Family Mart for some fami-chiki, Côte d'Azur for karaoke with my friends and Namie.![]()
My life as a student in Fukushima was life changing. I got to learn so much about Fukushima and through the study trips, I was able to experience Japanese culture first-hand. I travelled to many places including Sapporo for the wintertime and tried out many new food and beverages. ![]()
One of my highlights was making it into a Japanese newspaper.![]()
If you are thinking of studying at Fukushima University, I would say do it because Fukushima is a nice place and you will get a lot out of it.
